Review of Friday (1995) by Handsome Man — 25 Dec 2009
"Friday" is one of those cheerful comedies that is based around the bedrock of 1990's pop culture, simular to Quentin Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" in that sense. Another simularity that "Friday" has to other great films like "Pulp Fiction" and "Fargo" is the quirky and quite funny dialogue.
The best way to describe "Friday" would be to call it a pun upon the 1991 classic, "Boyz N The Hood". Both films contain virtually the same elements; a typical 90's Los Angeles suburb filled with unemployed, lackadaisical African Americans who only sit around all day, smoking cannabis and drinking bottles of vodka.
Yet "Friday" has an unenviable charm to it that make's it seem like a dumb witted, but in fact is quite enjoyable.
