Review of Friday (1995) by Jay L — 19 Mar 2011
"After this Friday, the hood will never be the same.".
Director F. Gary Gray's absolutely hilarious comedy is one hell of a laughfest from start to finish. Searingly funny with enough jokes and one liners to cause enough laughing that your stomach will cramp, and this is a good thing! Feeling down about something, not anymore; having a bad day, kiss it goodbye, this film will turn any frown upside down with ease. Friday takes a look at some seriously random events on just another Friday in the hood. An excellent stoner comedy that I consider a classic in comedy. It has some stunningly funny one liners and jokes as well as a hardcore hip hop soundtrack from the likes of big name rappers including Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg and many others.
Ice Cube Stars alongside his stoner buddy played with comedic genius from Chris Tucker. Great acting by both actors in some early performances in their careers. Both have gone on to have hugely successful acting careers, but it all started with Friday for both of them. It also features performances by Nia Long and "Tiny" Lister Jr. Great movie with an excellent cast. The foundation of many epic careers.
