Review of Frenzy (2015) by Jon H — 10 Sep 2008
Not Hitch's best, but has many of the staples of his films. It is probably one of the earliest serial killer films and it shows in the sense of too much exposition about serial killer traits. It's as if Anthony Shaffer (the writer) had lifted text from a psychoanalysis diagnostic book. The acting also feels a little off-kilter too, at times the whole apple and pears lahndan dialect of the 70's made me think I was watching a dark version of On The Buses, with the killer being the cheeky Jack. It just needed Blakey to pop up "I 'ate you Butler!".
The film's saving grace is the direction and camerawork in all honesty, but there are so many better examples of Hitch's work.
