Review of Freezer (2014) by Logan H — 06 May 2014
Freezer a Canadian action thriller, was Directed by Mikael Salomon best known for his work on TV. The film stars Robert (Dylan McDermott) last seen in Hostages and Olympus Has Fallen; He's the joke cracking Bruce Willis type who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
After being locked in a freezer in the back of a Russian restaurant for stealing $8 million he is integrated at least 6 times by two Russian thugs one a James Caan look alike the other a dead ringer for Conan the Barbarian. They are joined by the bi-lingual Alisa (Yuliya Snigir) A Good Day to Die Hard playing the bad girl once again; she serves as the translator and insists on seducing Robert to get him to talk.
The film costars David McNally and Peter Facinelli both playing cops here though they are shown only briefly on occasion. There is a heavy comedy undertone here followed by brisk violence, bloody at times. The torture gets more extreme with the mob guys as they turn the chill meter down after each visit, even removing Robert's shoes and socks at one point then pouring water on him later.
There are a few serious twist and turns towards the end, which I though could have used a better finale. Even with its low budget, 80 minute runtime and given that 95% of it took place in a freezer I felt the acting was done very well and it was convincing. This is defiantly worth seeing, but a word of caution there is abundant amount of cussing and some sometimes graphic violence.
