Review of Freedomland (2006) by Danny R — 03 Nov 2007
When you have two acting powerhouses in the same movie you know you're in for a great time. Except in cases like this one. Samuel L. Jackson and Julianne Moore are totally wasted in this lame ass drama about a missing child and racial tension between the tenants of a housing project and the cops.
What starts off being pretty interesting and dramatic ends up going nowhere in it's middle portion and eventually turns into a rip off of the equally bad Dark Blue from a few years back. While Sam Jackson seems to be trying his hardest with the trite material.
.. Julianne Moore turns into Ricardo Montalban from Star Trek II. She chews up the scenery left and right and it casued me to giggle more than once when her eyes bugged out of her head for the umpteenth time while delivering paragraph upon paragraph of dialogue that was supposed to be deep but just sounds fake and hammy.
Avoid it unless you like slow torture.
