Review of Freedomland (2006) by Russell G — 02 Feb 2012
I thought the investigation of a missing child sounded exciting and I love Sam Jackson and Julianne Moore, but this film did not deliver like I hoped it would. It takes an unexpected direction in the plotline and ends up leading to an unfulfilling finish.
The movie's racial tension feels forced and perhaps out of scale. The mystery becomes clear a little too soon, which reduces the emotional power of the resolution, leaving a sad and drawn out finish.
Sam Jackson was good but I did not like the character Julianne Moore played. I do not blame her for this, just the character. It is more emotionally downtrodden and slower paced than I would have liked and given the people who were in the cast I feel robbed on this one.
