Review of Freedom Writers (2007) by Iven S — 12 Sep 2009
This movie looks like every other movie you have seen about a teacher making a difference and turning things around for her students.... but watching it, I was surprised that I actually got into it. This is a heart warming tale that had me shed a tear.
.. and be surprised that I did. Definitely lifted my spirits and had me look at things with more of positive outlook. Having accomplished what many movies can't, it still fell short. For me it was the many narrations from the different class members, it works fine when I just hear their voices but when I start seeing them say what they write and then have fading collages cross over their faces it just felt too staged.
That had me lose the illusion that this was real and made it harder for me to get back into it. Still, it gave me hope in humanity... and that counts for alot these days when you've seen the same type of movie a few times before.
