Review of Freedom Downtime (2001) by Ian W — 25 Oct 2010
A very good, Michael Moore style documentary, about Kevin Mitnick who was imprisoned for hacking by the US governement. The film debunks a lot of the stories around this and basically proves that the government wrongly imprisoned Mitnick for what he did.
I have seen the movie 'Takedown' and also read the book and after watching this it is clear that the book and movies falsified a lot of what actually happens. I have the utmost respect for Kevin Mitnick as a genius and for the talent he has and I believe that he was falsely accused and it is nice to see that he is doing well for himself with his own private network security firm.
This film shows still how the government is paranoid about the way people use computers. This is most likely because they are scared or stupid with regards to their own computer security and such and just exemplifies that in this modern age the people who are in charge are the people with the least knowledge and the most to lose.
