Great historical movie about a Newt Knight who decided that he didn't want to fight for rich people to own slaves and started his own Free State in Jones County. He saw only people not color. Helped in the reclamation period after the war too when the south tried to get around the new laws protecting blacks.
Matthew is great as is Gugu who plays his love interest.
