A superb film, a real story. It's not "stilted" or slow - any reviewer who says that didn't actually open themselves to the film. Don't expect artificial Hollywood gimmicks to juice up a film; just accept the drama of real stories - the brutality and tragedy of the Civil War, the injustice of slavery and discrimination; the reality of the Reconstruction -none of the "magnolia-scented nonsense" (as the NY Times review put it) of Gone With The Wind historically inaccurate view of Civil War and Reconstruction.
