Review of Free State of Jones (2016) by Steven B — 28 Jun 2016
You know, the other Old Geezers Who Go To The Matinee Alone (all 7 of us) really wanted to like this Civil War yarn. . . mostly because we like Matthew McConaughey. But I was disappointed and one couple left early.
The story is interesting, suppose to be true, but the movie is loooooong at 2.5 hours and it was hard to keep my attention focused, I mean even more than normal. Way too many close ups and way too many speeches.
Not much depth here anyway, the good guys were saints and the bad guys were evil. The first part of the movie, the war stuff, was interesting and well filmed. But the later part of the movie just got bogged down in moralizing.
If you haven't anything else to do, like me, then go ahead and go; it's not a total waste of time, just mostly.
