Movie night with Iris.
Muddled film but really interesting story. Opening third is a Private Ryan-type immersion into the US Civil War. The main course is the story of the armed revolt against the confederacy, and the fight against racial inequality. Then there's a strange side story about the 1940s heir racially barred from marrying under Mississippi's discrimination laws.
It's engrossing stuff even if there's a degree of A-Team resistance going on. Just as a movie it's a little muddled, and most about showcasing McConaughey.
