Review of Free State of Jones (2016) by Peter N — 14 Jun 2017
Brilliant, mind blowing, a true history of events that the powers that be don't want you to know about. Newton Knight is no "White savior," figure (i'm vmbarassed to be an Atlantic reader after seeing that obtuse review); he's just a gwhite uy who realized that that the Confederate aristocracy were playing poor whites for fools while using them (at least in the main character's view) as slaves.
It's a history movie, so obviously it's not adrenaline, action and pure entertainment from start to finish. But some of the action sequences are electrifying while others show that (who'd have think it) war just doesn't look like fun and games. Contrary to what one critic said, the movie *does* show conflict between the black and white freedom fighters.
