Review of Free State of Jones (2016) by Francesco A — 04 Jun 2017
A solid rebellion movie that shows the horrors of war and its disaffecting results that spurned one of the most intriguing guerrilla warfare tales in history. Simultaneously, this is a provoking tale of the struggles of Reconstruction and rebuilding lives and negotiating ideals into the post-war South.
Unfortunately the transition between these two parts of the movie is too abrupt to make either truly satisfying and we are left with parts of two powerful narratives-the first feeling too incomplete and the second feeling too undeveloped to be fully satisfying.
