I loved this movie. The Civil War is not understood by most Americans and Free State of Jones helps explain what motivated the South and how poor white people were forced to fight and die to protect the immoral institution of slavery.

I'm disappointed critics were less than impressed because this movie deserves to be widely seen. Matthew McConaughey plays Newton Knight in a historically accurate fashion. The story is compelling and well worth the ticket price.
