Review of Free Birds (2013) by Steve W — 13 Nov 2013
Animation aside, the movie is not very funny, heartfelt, or memorable. Two turkeys infiltrate a government compound with a single mission in mind. Travel back in time and stop pilgrims from having turkey at the first Thanksgiving, and save millions of turkeys in the past, present, and future.
The jokes often fall flat, with a very cliche laden story as well. The turkeys take on the personality of a native tribe, with offensive face paint and spears. There is also the mandatory personal sacrifice scene, in which a very convenient burning log forces the heroes to make a sacrifice.
There are a few solid parts, such as the stoic voiced Time Travel Machine STEVE (George Takei), and the chuckling bio suit wearing security guards of the military compound. Overall, Free Birds has gorgeous animation but a very cliche and poor story, which is more important.
