Review of Free Birds (2013) by Kevin R — 12 Nov 2013
Turkeys are dumb.
There are two turkeys on the opposite side of the tracks, one living in a presidential sweet eating takeout every night and one on the menu escapee that wants to change history. The escapee was approached by "the great turkey" one night and told a tale of time machines and ending turkey being on the menu for Thanksgiving, but he needs to recruit the presidential turkey to help him. The two turkeys embark on an amazing adventure to get turkey off the Thanksgiving menu.
"That's the girl who likes my daddy, but don't tell anyone.".
Jimmy Hayward, director of Horton Hears a Who and Jonah Hex, delivers Free Birds. The storyline for this picture is okay and I enjoyed watching it unfold. This actually reminded me a little of Chicken Little. The animation was solid for the most part (though I didn't think the dogs were well done). The voices were well selected and include Owen Wilson, Keith David, Woody Harrelson, Amy Poehler, and George Takei.
"What's wrong with my eyes?".
We caught this at the drive-in as the opening picture and found this film very fun to watch unfold. This is far from a perfect picture, but it is entertaining and a bit better than the recent Ice Age and Madagascar pictures. I would say this is definitely worth seeing but not worth adding to your DVD collection.
"Those are some angry birds.".
