Review of Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991) by Gerry P — 06 Oct 2012
Defiantly the weakest of the franchise. There's not one scare in it at all. The whole film acts more like a comedy instead of a horror and not in a good Army of Darkness way. Rachel Talalay regrets making that decision and don't forget, she went on to direct Tank Girl, a film that "Tanked", tee hee. Oh, what? If you thought that joke was bad, try watching the humour in this film.
The whole film just feels like a bad TV movie. Don't expect any gore from this film. All you get is a little bit of blood and that's it. So then, why was it rated 18 in the UK? If you take the swearing and drug references out, it would get a 12. But then there's the child abuse theme.
Freddy's make up looks awful, he looks too human. Robert Englund is the only positive thing about this film. He knows Freddy inside out. The other characters are dull and uninteresting. And yes, the Tom Arnold and Rosanne Barr cameo was pointless.
The nightmare sequences are yawn worthy. The video game nightmare could've worked if there were scary monsters and evil demons everywhere, almost like Resident Evil or Silent Hill. Y, know, SOMETHING SCARY! Just watching Breckin Meyer's character bouncing all over the place and crashing every where was just embarrassing. Just watch the first film again and then watch this film. Which is more scarier? Exactally!
The third act is just lazy and dull. It's just an unexciting, unscary and stupid film all together.
Peter Jackson wrote a draft for this film. Why didn't they use that draft? But, no. They had to go for this stupid one.
