Review of Freddy vs. Jason (2003) by Mark N — 08 Mar 2012
The title promises the horror icon death match all us folks in 2003 have been waiting for. Instead we get stuck following the usual dumb teen protagonists as they slowly piece together just what's up with this Freddy guy (again). Jason's hanging around too, but nobody ever seems too worried about him, even when he's hacking people apart with his trusty machete. Things aren't all bad though. Had it been any worse, the movie would have walked straight into so-bad-it's-amazing territory. The (intentionally?) lousy dialogue lends itself to that. Gems like "Got your nose!" and "One, two, Freddy's coming for you. You know why they say that? Cuz that's when he comes for you." Nevertheless, I'm still holding out for Ash vs Freddy vs Jason vs Pinhead vs Michael vs Candyman vs Leatherface... vs a mob plate mail clad zombie Nazis.
