Review of Freddy Got Fingered (2001) by Cody C — 15 Jun 2011
The most misunderstood and underrated comedy of the last decade. Also one of the best. If you're not into avant-garde, you won't like it. Tom Green is an innovator, always ahead of the curve. This film foreshadowed Tim & Eric (they even got there 'awesome show, great job' subtitle from the line in the film 'great job, nice show') as well as Adam McKay stuff, Adult Swim etc.
His show The Tom Green Show broke down the door for Jackass. His online talk show broke down the door for countless others. I can see why people wouldn't like this movie. The gross-out humor might be off-putting for some.
But it's being used satirically. And there's a lot of subtle jokes that show Tom's depth as a comedian. And the music cues are brilliant. Gary Numan's 'Cars' playing over him riding in a car always cracks me the fuck up.
Followed by 'I Gotta Be Me' playing over footage of him driving to Hollywood. You gonna definitely see his Albert Brooks influence in his funny music cue choices. Anyway, I could talk about this movie for ages, so I'll probably just write a really long blog entry about it.
Peace.
