Review of Freddy Got Fingered (2001) by Rob B — 11 Nov 2009
This is one of those movies which you would either love or hate. The decision mostly depends on if you understand Tom Green's sense of humor.
This was one of the most unique movies I ever saw. The first thing is the actual movie name. "Freddy got fingered," may give people prior to watching it a false impression at first. The second thing is how the movie is described on the back of the DVD case; it's written like it was intended for a seven year old. Once you start watching it, you'll realize that this is far suitable from any minors.
The plot isn't that bad: Tom Green stars as Gordon, whose dream is to become a cartoonist or an animator, whatever. He goes to Hollywood to get his contract, and returns home empty handed after being told that his ideas suck. The movie now plays out with random acts of nonsense until after the therapy section, which was the climax of the film. Gordon gives up his dream, but eventually changes his mind and pursuits that contract once again. Only this time, he earns it and everyone lives happily ever after... right?
During the movie, Gordon is screened with some of the strangest characters you'll ever see. There's his dad Jim, who happens to be the biggest asshole in the neighborhood. His handicapped girlfriend Betty, who happens to burst out all orgasmic if you hit her on the legs with a stick. And I can't forget the local boy, who seems to always be injured at several points.
Several scenes of the movie have to be the most stupidest shit I ever saw, but for some reason I have an attachment for them. There's Gordon pretending to be a scuba diving in the shower, playing a piano with sausages tied to his fingers, putting some extra cheese on a cheese sandwich, wearing a roadkill deer over himself, and working at the cheese sandwich factory in Hollywood.
So overall, this is a really underestimated movie. Like I said before, you have to know Tom Green to enjoy the movie, or else you'll probably agree with the critics on how "this is one of the worst movies ever." If you're about to watch it for the first time, then you're in for one hell of a show.
