Review of Fred Claus (2007) by Debbie Y — 19 Dec 2009
I love it, I thought this movie was great, considering there are alot of people that don't like it. Fred Claus is a 2007 Christmas comedy-drama film produced and directed by David Dobkin. The movie begins long ago in Middle Age Europe with a woman giving birth to a baby.
As the baby is born, the midwife comments on how its the biggest baby she's ever seen. Within a few minutes of his birth, the baby starts saying "Ho, ho, ho!". The woman, Mother Claus calls her other son, Fred, over to meet his new brother, who she has decided to name Nick.
Mother Claus lovingly refers to the new baby as her little Saint Nick, while Fred promises to be the best big brother ever. I thought Vince Vaughn was great in this movie and thought Paul Giamatti was great as Santa Claus .
I found the movie to be funny, it had some hilarious scenes, especially the the "Siblings Anonymous " support group and another favorite scene of mine was when Santa gave Clyde Northcutt (Kevin Spacey), a Superman cape that he wanted for Christmas when he was a kid.
All in all I thought the movie was good and don't know why it got bad reviews by critics. Two thumbs up for me. A great Christmas movie to watch with the whole family, good for upcoming weeks to christmas.
