Review of Fred Claus (2007) by Elliott C — 19 Dec 2010
It's rare these days to find a movie that isn't either saturated with sugary sweetness, or drenched in depressing darkness. "Fred Claus" is one of those movies.
I didn't have high hopes for this movie, since I haven't been a fan of "modern" Christmas movies for a decade or so. I have to say, though, that I was pleasantly surprised by this one.
The characters, though not necessarily unique, are still done with some naturalness to them. I myself can relate to Fred. The cast did a great job of portraying their particular roles. The cameos by Roger Clinton, Frank Stallone, and Stephen Baldwin was excellent.
"Fred Claus" is funny without being crude, and touching without being sappy. It got an honestly good and positive message about Family across without being preachy. This film is truly a charming Christmas story that I would be willing to watch each year with the family.
