Review of Fred Claus (2007) by Bob S — 09 Jul 2009
This is a good family movie for the holidays about embracing who you are and finding the good in others. The first two thirds is hit or miss funny with Vaughnâ??s typical efforts fighting off little elf ninjas (and DJâ??s) and trying to outrun a dozen street corner Santas.
To my pleasant surprise, the movie excelled as Fred stopped goofing off and the film turned serious. The scene when the elves go watch the kids open the presents is quite a powerful, dramatic moment and was assisted by a flawless version of Silent Night by Sinéad Oâ??Connor.
Another highlight was the Brothers Anonymous scene with some hilarious cameos. However, there were fewer highlights than you might expect considering the astounding collection of talented actors and actresses involved.
