Review of Freaky Friday (2003) by Wesley W — 04 Nov 2014
I don't know why critics praise this movie. I found it to be bland, mediocre, and poorly directed. I did used to like this film, but now I see how predictable it is and how sappy it is at times. In my opinion, Lindsay Lohan is a poor actress and she failed to be convincing as her own character and as Jamie Lee Curtis's.
She came off as nothing but a selfish teenager in the first half and I couldn't find any reason to care about her. A lot of the drama did not hit in the first half of the movie and it was just too melodramatic.
Besides that most of the jokes were not memorable nor were they funny and I felt the script could have had some work. The original Freaky Friday I thought was just alright and not that great, but here things seemed to be more mediocre this time around.
Flaws aside, the one good aspect of the movie was Jamie Lee Curtis. I thought she gave a good performance and she had fun playing her own character and Lindsay Lohan's, because when the film would turn back to Lindsay Lohan, I was less interested and less engaged about what was going on.
I also thought the movie was edited well and the final 15 minutes added a decent shred of humanity in its main characters.
