I actually really appreciate Freaks, as risky as the concept was. It's greatest flaw is some of the dialogue is difficult to understand, but the simple and sad story is quite compelling and the climax is dark and chilling.
The sequence is unforgettable; I couldn't take my eyes off the screen.
