Review of Freaks (1932) by William M — 18 Feb 2009
Freaky, to say the least. Although the plot is pretty boring, the novelty of this movie is just that its filled with "freaks" who live relatively normal lives. The movie attempts to put disabled people in a positive light, but fails when their community turns into a violent cult that will leave you completely freaked out. In the end, I think the direction of this movie is more about capturing the last of the freak show era and putting these actors on a stage to point at than to open any doors of understanding.
Still probably one of the most parodied cinematic classics; "One of us, one of us. Gooble gobble, gooble gobble.".
