Review of Freaks (1932) by Caleb S — 09 Aug 2009
It just gets annoying... the acting that is. It has a similar effect on me as Even Dwarfs Started Small... where in, the writer/director is seemingly trying to make deformities acceptable and nonchalant in the circumstances, but the accidental effect is to just make me more disturbed.
.. after Dwarfs I couldn't look at a midget on a subway without considering getting off at the next stop (that faze has since passed). But I mostly blame the negatives of these films on the acting.
.. it's not really something you can say against the actors though. After all, it's not like they had many opportunities to hone their craft.
