Review of Freaks (1932) by Jerrod G — 25 Aug 2009
It's crazy to think that this film was banned for so many years --- it's really not scary at all. While many may find it disturbing that real "freaks" were used, I think it's actually awesome that they were actors in it.
Not only does it show their humanity, but considering it was the early 1930s, I bet they were stoked to be in a movie! What's fascinating is the question of who or what a "freak" truly is because the film ends with a story of how our body doesn't determine us as abnormal; rather, our actions make us freaks.
Truly, a film worth watching and discussing.
