Review of Freaks (1932) by James L — 24 Sep 2009
I really don't understand how this is on the list of 500 films to watch before you die. Yes it addresses an important message, treating everyone with the same respect, but the acting is terrible and the message is lost.
It may have been considered controversial when it came out using people with real deformities but I didn't think it was that shocking. It is however creepy in parts and the "Gooble Gobble! Gooble Gobble! One of us!" chant worked really well.
Not necessarily a horror film but being nearly 80 years old I think this will have influenced many modern day horror films.
