Review of Freaks (1932) by Jason C — 31 Oct 2009
Another one of those films I should have seen years ago. It's not really scarey and the plot isn't all that engrossing but the effect of watching actual freaks is intense. You can't help but wander what it would be like to live as the human torso, or little people who look like they simply stopped growing at five years old (what is that variation of dwarfism anyway?).
If you're not into musing about amputees and chromosomal mutations, there is also a strange sexual undercurrent that runs throughout most of the film that comes as a bit of a surprise.
