Review of Freaks (1932) by Brent F — 08 Apr 2011
Heard about this film from a random mention in a film doc and loved the fact that brown used real circus freaks and a very dark theme. back then this must have been a true horror movie and the director gets alot of credit for maximizing the acting of the characters with more non-verbal communication and mood.
my favorite scene is after Venus and Hans are married they're at the reception and the freaks want to induct her into the family which is a great show of love and trust. they start singing a nonsense song that builds into a frenzy and you can see her disgust and hatred build up.
definitely the best scene for me. great movie for it's time but unfortunately loses a bit in it's journey to the present day.
