Review of Freaks (1932) by Calvin D — 12 Apr 2011
Simply put, a masterpiece.
This controversial film sought to teach a lesson in ethics that we are still struggling to learn today. The stellar cast of carnival stars are documented brilliantly by Tod Browning in short 'slice of life' moments. While watching this I wondered why it was considered a horror film, but as it drew to a close, despite its effective message, and touching story, it was undeniably creepy. Its a classic that really deserves to be seen, since its relevancy has not faded at all.
