Review of Freaks (1932) by Chris H — 16 Jan 2009
The very macabre world of the Freaks is something I feel David Lynch touched upon in the Elephant Man. There's similar style to both films. This 1932 film has aged particularly well, probably due to director Tod Browning using people with real life deformities.
The ending is suitably frightening and the voyeaurism that has made the 'Freaks' a circus side show is suitably turned on its head. This is one of the first examples of the horror genre in Hollywood cinema.
