Review of Freaks (1932) by Robyn M — 22 Jul 2012
The title alone sets your curiousity off immediately!
Freaks surprised me with having compassion for the challenged, the different and misunderstood society inwhich people froan upon.
Tod Brownings black and white is best descibed Orignal and nothing you'd find during the 30's when Movies where just coming around to the big screen. I don't imagine this film having a large budget or being screened on Theatres. Instead through small gatherings. It really at best is considered an indie for it's time. Even though Independent films where unheard of until the next 2 decades later. Freaks shines light on humanity, with the director sending a clear message to those who degrate the degenerates. Show some respect where it's deserved and the next time you call someone a 'Freak' take a long hard look in the mirror at your shallow, heartless self first!
