Review of Freaks (1932) by Philip Z — 20 Oct 2013
For what is typically considered to be an all-time classic, the story lacks. The only thing that sets this apart is the unusual cast. But you have to give credit to MGM for their bold attempt to go against the grain at the time - and discredit for renouncing it for decades afterwards.
Is this a horror film? A film noir? It's kind of impossible to classify, which is probably why it still stands up today.
