Review of Freakonomics (2010) by Sam T — 20 Jan 2011
I've no idea why they made this as a 90 minute film it would work much better as a TV series, which is how I watched it in three viewings. The film making was enjoyable, but the content was dissapointing. We had a film about cheating in Sumo wrestling; big deal there's cheating in all wrestling. This segment also seemed to have little to do with economivs other than the statement that studying the numbers had identified the cheating. What could have been the most interesting film was about whether 9th graders could be paid to learn. This was an interesting topic for most parents, but the film was let down by poor science. It focused on two kids, which is hardly a good sample, but more importantly didnt tell us what happened to them when the experiment stopped.
Overall a good idea, just poorly executed.
