Review of Freakonomics (2010) by Vuk S — 28 Sep 2013
Haven't read the book, and although the movie tackles some interesting subjects, it was an utter borefest. The pacing, narration and overall tone of this documentary was slow, monotone and extremely boring. I tried real hard to concentrate on the material, but I could not make myself follow the narrators and their tempo.
I have one such professor at college, his speech and method of teaching are so monotone that most of us never listen to a word he says, even if we try to do so. Some even fall asleep in class, and that's what I did numerous times during this movie, so it took me many viewings to finally finish it.
I believe the most important thing in documentary film is to present the subject matter in a way that will attract the attention of the viewers, make them care, and not make them feel as if they are reading a book in a dimly lighted room just before bedtime. If possible, people should have fun while learning, or thinking.
So overall, this movie deals with some interesting and important subjects, yet I believe it will fail to capture the attention of most people who are used to today's documentaries having a more fun and energetic mood.
