Review of Freaked (1993) by Alex F — 19 Jun 2007
"How many feminists does it take to change a lightbulb? Two! One to change the lightbulb, and one to ride my rodney!" Sold yet? Theme song by Henry Rollins and Blind Idiot God, the awesome instrumental band signed to SST records? No? Effects by SIX of the major splatter units (including Screaming Mad George, but not KNB unfortunately)? Or rasifarian eyeball henchment (who are unable to say anything other than "RastafarEYE")? Or Mr T as a bearded lady? Bobcat Goldthwait as Sockhead? No? This has some of the best special effects I've ever seen.
None of it looks real but this isn't that kind of movie - this is Mad Magazine collided with Fangoria. The make up is so good, it's jaw dropping this never won any awards for it (As far as I know), whereas in it's year of release, MRS DOUBTFIRE won an academy award for best make up.
You know, that film where Robin Williams's character undergoes a radical transformation into...Robin Williams in a wig with a bigger chin...*sigh...* It's the type of movie the fabulously creative people working in the low budget world would make with studio money.
