Review of Frantic (1988) by Stephen S — 01 Dec 2010
Harrison Ford in an unusual role: a man whose wife gets kidnapped. Now he has to get her back. Never seen Harrison Ford in a movie like this before...anyway, it's not really that good. I don't like Roman Polanski's direction for this film.
..there's a lot of time spent on information that's not really necessary, and sequences that are often both boring and useless. This would have made sense if the story was a murder-mystery, where the audience had to guess who the murderer was.
In that case, it would have been cool, because even the smallest detail could be a major clue integral to solving the case. Also, the plot itself seems cool at the outset, but once the film starts to take off and more info is revealed about why Walker's wife was kidnapped, it doesn't really make sense, and honestly, made me lose interest.
The writers really should have kept the story shrouded in mystery for longer, and when the unknown was revealed, it should've made more sense...you can tell they probably just cobbled something together from a current events story (for the time) and threw it in here.
Harrison Ford is alright here I guess...I don't know, but something about the way his plays this role isn't that satisfying. There's other movies of this ilk that he released around this time that I like (such as Presumed Innocent) and don't like (such as Witness), but in either case, whether I believe the movie is good or bad, I enjoyed seeing Harrison Ford in it.
Yet in this film, there's just something off about his acting...can't explain it, but hopefully you'll see what I mean if you watch this. Oh and by the way, the ending is absolutely retarded.
