Review of Frantic (1988) by Ben H — 23 Feb 2012
This is a suspenseful and thrilling movie that gets energy from strategy and mystery rather than shooting and fighting. It has a solid plot that that develops slowly yet keeps you engrossed. Harrison Ford thrives in a role like this, where he is a regular man placed in an extreme situation but is forced into a hero role out of desperation and emotional instinct.
Ford is very good as the main character; he is smart, strong, and persistent. I give credit to Polanski who shot it in am interesting way that keeps the viewer connected with the search for the main characterâ(TM)s wife.
Even when terrorist nuclear threats enter the picture, all the viewer cares about is Ford rescuing his wife. The only slight shortcoming worth mentioning is that the audience catches on quicker than the main character does at one point, but it avoids being predictable and gets back on track.
