Review of Frankenweenie (2012) by Jan M — 13 Feb 2013
Perhaps not Tim Burton's best or most iconic film, but a sweet, entertaining romp in the strange twists and turns of his brain nonetheless. This little film can only really be appreciated if one is a fan an aficionado of early Universal, Hammer, and Japanese monster movies, as there are a great many homages to this early form of horror cinema, from Boris Karloff and Vincent Price to Japanese mega-monsters like Godzilla.
Oh, and Winona Ryder voicing the role of Elsa, and thereby reprising her roles in Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands, is a little bit of genius.
