Review of Frankenweenie (2012) by Jared C — 31 Mar 2013
The film reminds me of James and the Giant Peach with the animation that was used for it, and then again there is The Nightmare Before Christmas. All of those Burton collaborated on, except this one is his own creation which he can claim as his own.
In 1984 he did a short film of this for Disney, but unfortunately its one of the things that threw him off the Disney animators team years ago back when he was helping animation for films such as the Fox and the Hound.
So overall this would be more of a sentimental film for Burton, his love for the dog Sparky, his choice of actors to do the voices (it does feel different for a change to hear Martin Landaus voice in an animated flick) and the parody of Frankenstein is what is seen here.
I think its enjoyable to watch, even if some of Burton's inspiration for all of this film does use repetitive style and vintage.
