Review of Frankenweenie (2012) by George G — 21 Apr 2013
After many many years, Tim Burton finally made a good film. Overall silly and childish, seems like an early work of him and it is. A rare thing for a burton movie, presented in this one, is a quetion-message.
Burton movies always lacked of an inner meaning, they were all about visual fascination and a general goth-pleasing semi-weird atmosphere in every story. But here it actually questions the use of science for either good (kid wants to bring the dog that always loved back to life) and bad reasons (kids who copied this experiment to fascinate the teachers).
He showed how the bad use of science can result to catatrophie. The visuals were quite good, but some mediocre voice acting was spotted. Let's hope he makes more movies like that (though I doubt it).
