Review of Frankenweenie (2012) by Michelle H — 15 Sep 2013
A very charming, funny, and quirky spoof that pays homage to the classic horror films of the past, Frankenstein, Godzilla, and Dracula just to name a few! A little boy brings his dead best friend back to life and tries to hide him from his parents and the neighborhood! Of course his secret gets out and a treacherous little boy named Igor, (yes he looks like a hunchback!) steals the reanimation secrets and starts sharing them with other creepy kids, and they create creatures that run amok in the town.
The stop-motion in the picture is flawless, the dog reanimation scene in particular,is stunning. I loved the classic black and white film stock, it gives a greater sense of atmosphere. The film has a quirky humor to it.
All of the characters are unique and distinctive. The Frankenstein dog is adorable! The film was also surprisingly emotional and had me tearing up more than once. I really got a sense of Tim Burton's soul in this one.
It is based on a short film of the same name he made a long time ago when he was still a rookie director. He could not have done a better job bringing his vision into a full length movie! The morals of the film where also great, this is a good one to show to the kids, it will teach them about the power of love! People of any age will love this movie, it was wonderful entertainment!
