Review of Frankenweenie (2012) by Jim S — 29 Jun 2013
After the incredibly disappointing Alice In Wonderland, Tim Burton is back to his usual standard with this animated remake of his own 1980's short film.
Using the basic premise of Frankenstein & mixing in a few references from other classic horror (Dracula, etc) it sees a schoolboy resurrect his recently dead dog, but when his school friends discover of this, they use his experiment for their own purposes.
Whilst the animation is absolutely flawless, I thought the storyline fell between two stools of being too scary for children and too childish for adults.
Still, it's good-natured, macabre fun from a filmmaker who uses the occult as a regular stamp on his work.
