I keep on wishing for the next Coraline, but I'm just going to have to face the fact that there will never be something like that again. But I will say that this one did come closer than most of the recent stop motion animation these days (ParaNorman).

Maybe my mind has been tinted by Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas because I have this lust for every stop motion animated movie that has a similar premise to be like that, a dark and actually creepy film. But what I'm mostly getting are movies that yes, will frighten young kids, but are just another animated movie to older ones and they also throw in stupid jokes and try to be comedic at the wrong times. This one though, did make it pretty close to what I was looking for. It had the dark feel to it and it really helped to make it black and white, which was awesome, and although there were some moments of embarrassment, it still made for a fun and at times, frightening experience.

This one also had a good organization of genres. It can be funny and scary, but at the right times. A problem with a lot of these movies these days (ParaNorman) are that they lack the ability to bring humor into it at the right moments instead of jumbling it all throughout the movie like it's supposed to be a comedy. It's not! So I was happy with that and a lot of the jokes were hilarious. They had this running gag where all the characters were super over the top and weird, like out of a monster movie. The whole town was like that and it really brought something to the table and made you recognize that this is a spoof and a good one too.

Frankenweenie had a unique and heartfelt story, interesting characters, funny gags, and the ability to scare kids if it wanted to. I don't think the voice actors were the best, but it made up for it with their character's intriguing characteristics. I thought it was a good story and it looked phenomenal. I would recommedn you look for it in the future.
