Review of Frankenweenie (2012) by Javeth R — 08 Nov 2013
Cute, but not nearly as good as the original. For whatever reasons, the quality of the stop-motion movement was not up to par, and the characters were not very likable, except for Sparky and the other dog.
It's interesting that they decided to make this a reunion of sorts with a lot of Burton's former stars, but that really didn't do much for the way it played out. It's lacking the emotion that the movies they all once starred in have.
The black and white worked well for the original Frankenweenie, but the stop motion art the Burton makes is already dim-colored enough. It didn't need the black and white, and in fact, it might have hindered the movement of the mouths of the characters.
It's also kind of upsetting that the original actors of the Frankenweenie short were not called back to do the voices in this one; after all, they did a great job for the original.
