Review of Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943) by Ryan V — 07 Jun 2017
Lawrence Talbot (Lon Chaney Jr.) arises from his family crypt with the horrid knowledge that his werewolf curse makes him nigh immortal. Determined to end his string of lupine murders by any means necessary, Talbot desperately searches for the journals of Dr.
Frankenstein and (as the title implies) he runs into the doctor's monstrous creation (Bela Lugosi). Lon Chaney Jr. delivers an underrated performance as the tortured Talbot and this movie has a few good scenes, but the formulaic plot sometimes feels like a photocopy of a photocopy.
I love the Universal horror movies and therefore I found enough to maintain my interest, but even I'll admit that there isn't much here that isn't done earlier and better in The Wolf Man or the first three Frankenstein movies; neophytes would be better served with one of those films.
