Review of Frank (2014) by Andrew B — 21 Jan 2015
I'm probably just too cynical but I thought the movie dropped off pretty hard after SXSW. I was getting some really mixed messages in the second half that detracted from the great first half. The first half was a quirky adventure about making music and appreciating individuals eccentricities.
A bit generic but Fassbender carried it and the music is legit patrician. Post SXSW the movie morphed into an overly self serious mental illness drama and the new tone never felt natural. I still liked the movie and look forward to whatever else comes from all the people involved, I just wish it finished as well as it started.
